Carnival Club

This page is about Old Carnival Club (2016) – find out about NEW Carnival Club (2017)!

Our weekly Carnival Club started on Tuesday 21st June and runs until Tuesday 23rd August 2016 at Headway ArtSpace.

Local people of all ages and experience are invited to come and work alongside us to create and paint decorative sails, and design costumes and giant puppets on the themes of ‘Sagas of the Seven Seas’ for the Carnival procession taking place on Saturday 27th August at 3pm.

Carnival Club is free to attend and runs from 4pm-7.30pm.

Suggested times are 4-5pm for young people (from 11 years old), 5-7.30pm for families and individuals. You can pop in for a little while or stay the whole evening.

The street drumming workshop runs from 6.30pm until about 8pm (depending on the group.)

We’d love to hear from individuals, dance, arts and musical groups who’d like to make a costume or join our community band or participate in a colourful parade: admin@headwayarts.co.uk

Heroes and Villains Satellites Taster Day and The Big Draw

Are you or do you know a budding artist?

We are looking for learning disabled people aged 16+, their carers, families and friends to attend our free event for The Big Draw.

The event at ArtSpace will be open from 11am – 3pm next Tuesday (20th October). It will also run as a free creative art taster day of Satellites workshops which run Monday – Thursday every week. Satellites workshops, as many of you know, are our inspiring and creative performing arts workshops.

The theme for this year’s Big Draw is “Every Drawing Tells a Story”. We are asking artists to draw their favourite heroes and villains from their favourite graphic comics or novels. The drawings will be used to create a story which they can take wherever they want it to go.

As always, there is no previous experience necessary. All you need to do is wear something you don’t mind getting dirty. It is going to be a great day where you can make new friends and work together to produce a beautiful piece of art.

If you fancy it, we would like you to make a booking with us. You can do this by calling 01670351962 or pop us an email: admin@headwayarts.co.uk.

If you know someone else who might enjoy it, feel free to share our post with them. The more the merrier!

Happy drawing!

Come on Down 2015

COME ON DOWN is the regional festival of performance and creativity for and by learning disabled people and now in its 10th year! Supported by Headway Arts and hosted by our resident learning disabled theatre company Seven Stars, we would like you to be involved in this year’s festival by bringing your performance to show and share with us at Headway ArtSpace in Blyth.

If you haven’t been to Come on Down before, it is a bring and share event. This means we love it when people attend for a full day to perform or showcase their work and stay to watch the other groups as well. We are now looking to schedule performances into the festival programme…
