Come on Down 2015
COME ON DOWN is the regional festival of performance and creativity for and by learning disabled people and now in its 10th year! Supported by Headway Arts and hosted by our resident learning disabled theatre company Seven Stars, we would like you to be involved in this year’s festival by bringing your performance to show and share with us at Headway ArtSpace in Blyth.
If you haven’t been to Come on Down before, it is a bring and share event. This means we love it when people attend for a full day to perform or showcase their work and stay to watch the other groups as well. We are now looking to schedule performances into the festival programme…
The theme for this year is adventure. We would love to see pieces that incorporate our theme but this isn’t restrictive. If you’re struggling for inspiration, the Seven Stars will be performing Comet Tales, part of our New Worlds project. Set in a galaxy far, far away powered only by the starlight of their dreams, Captain Morale is on a mission to discover a beautiful space “just past the seventh star” when his spaceship is badly damaged in a moon-rock asteroid storm.
Of course, if you don’t have a piece of work to perform then we would still love to have you in the audience. There will be other things to get involved with as well such as music and drama workshops on the Wednesday, our ‘Come on Down’ game (check out The Price is Right if you don’t know what we’re talking about!), and the first ever Starlight Winter Ball on the Thursday evening so don’t miss out!
This year is also better than ever, not just because of the Starlight ball or our designated workshop day, we are hoping to have our new main ArtSpace up and running for Come on Down. Our new main space means more audience and performance space, and a larger stage! We also need your help to name it. We will ask you for your input on your Come on Down day so get your thinking caps ready!
