An open invitation to all those who love the planet – come along to share food, films, ideas and stories in the company of north east ‘artivists’ who are engaged in creative approaches to fostering climate hope. This event celebrates the 5th anniversary of Culture Declares Emergency, a growing international movement.
Organisation name: Culture Declares Emergency
Date and Times:
Wednesday 19th June from 3.30pm to 7.30pm
Event description: Culture Declares Emergency is an international movement of artivists and cultural organisations who recognise the climate and ecological emergency. We take action using creativity to connect on a human level. We know that climate anxiety is real and that art can help to heal individuals and empower communities. We’re celebrating our 5th anniversary with a series of events including a screening of our specially commissioned short film, ‘Holding Earth’. At Headway Arts we will also be screening locally made films as well as work made by international artists – all designed to inform and inspire. The event provides an opportunity to meet inspirational artivists such as Adam Cooper whose organisation ‘Threads in the Ground’ is working in schools using mushroom technology! You can also learn about ‘Festival of Thrift’ which celebrates the art of recycling, and the work of award-winning artist Lady Kitt who champions queer culture from an environmental perspective.
